When I found out that we were going to have a car graduation, I really wasn’t sure what to expect. I was very appreciative that the school was willing to put this together for the senior class, but I was still somewhat disappointed that I wasn’t going to experience the typical turf graduation. I knew that the car parade was better than nothing, and I was excited to see my high school teachers again, but I didn’t put much thought into how the rest of the community was going to react. The reaction was amazing.
As soon as we made our way out of the Playland parking lot, I knew the experience was going to be unforgettable. I was standing out of my car’s sunroof, wind blowing in my hair, waving to everyone on the side of the road. I don’t think I have ever felt that recognized and appreciated. People I have never seen before were waving and cheering me on was extraordinarily uplifting. My cheeks hurt because I had a smile on my face for the entire parade. One of my favorite moments was passing Milton and seeing all my old teachers cheer as I yelled “Milton forever!” I would say that my only complaint is that The Osborn missed a perfect opportunity to put up a banner that said “From our seniors to your seniors”, but that’s totally okay because seeing the Osborn residents cheering us on was incredibly heartwarming.
I can’t even put into words how grateful I am to everyone who came out to the parade, so I am going to stick with a simple thank you. So, thank you.
